Tech 21 founder Andrew Barta is a rare breed. As a former amp tech as well as a working musician, Barta both treasured vintage analog gear but also was aware of its limitations. This philosophy led to the birth of the original SansAmp amplifier emulator. While most companies were pushing their latest modeling technology, Tech 21 stuck true to its analog roots. Their SansAmp line continued to develop and eventually they added effects pedals to their lineup, including the Tech 21 Bass Boost Chorus, handmade in NYC along with the rest of their products.
The Boost Chorus series was specifically designed to return the chorus effect to its 70s roots. Barta eschewed the wimpy chorus sounds of the 80s, instead opting to design a circuit reminscent of the "fat" sounding chorus pedals of the 1970s. The Bass Boost Chorus features familiar controls: Mix, Tone, Speed, Detune, and Depth. A mini-switch activates the multi-voice chorus and a Level knob controls the amount of boost present when the chorus is activated. Designed specifically for the bass version, the detune control allows for a chorus sound without modulation when the speed and depth are set to zero. The pedal runs on a 9V battery or a Boss-type power adapter.
